Building a Product-Based Business

Occupation: Founder of EmancipatED, Consultant

Goal: Drive sales to her new product and attract new consulting gigs

BACKGROUND

When Dr. Menzies came to me, she was in the final stages of developing her product. What’s more, it was right around the time when DEI was exploding as a major topic of interest. She wanted to become known for sharing the stories of Maroon communities, drive sales for her product, and attract new B2B consulting clients. 

From her audience, she had seen reasonable success with pre-sales for her product, but she was overwhelmed and wanted support. She was also hoping to receive media training, so she could make the most out of each visibility opportunity. 

My goal? Secure interviews on mid- and top-tier shows in the niches of education, DEI, parenting, and BIPOC-led communities. 


OUR STRATEGY

Dr. Menzies was ready to be recognized as a thought leader for Maroon communities and raise awareness of the work she was doing, so I highlighted the unique framework she had created to position her company, EmancipatED, as a go-to educational resource for Black and Brown families. 
In alignment with her values, I was careful not to pitch shows that exhibited anti-racist or non-inclusive behaviors or that would pigeonhole her as a “critical race theorist.”

HER RESULTS

We booked 15 quality podcast interviews that led to audience growth, increased product sales, and new consulting opportunities.
